LESSON INFORMATION
Online Zoom Lessons are available. Under normal circumstances, a lesson would include helping the student out with any reed or instrument problems that can frequently occur. Due to the need for online lessons, the student will be responsible for coming to the lesson with an appropriate reed and working instrument. Please contact me for lesson details.
REEDS
The Oboe Reed is essentially the instrument, and unfortunately reeds do not last. It is crucial to play on new reeds in order to make progress and sound beautiful. Students are required to play on handmade reeds. I recommend that the student purchase a new reed every one to two weeks, depending on the level of the student. I will be happy to make reeds for my students. If they already have a reed supplier, I will need to approve the reeds during lessons. Feel free to contact me for reed orders and any questions you may have about reeds!
LESSON & REED POLICIES
I believe that dedication to a musical instrument is one of the most life enriching gifts we can give ourselves. I expect my students to have a desire to learn and enjoy the oboe. But let's be honest: Oboe is HARD. My goal is to give my students the tools to overcome the difficulties of this instrument so they can enjoy its beauty. I desire to make my students independent thinkers--as both oboists and musicians.
Students must come to lessons with a functional reed. If they wish to purchase one at the beginning of a lesson, I need at least 48 hours advanced notice.
My students are required to come prepared to lessons with the practice work I assign in their practice notebook. During lessons, my students and I discover together how to best shape the music learning process. At the end of every year students are required to play in a studio recital.
Students are required to learn from etude books that I choose based on their level on top of the band/orchestra music they may be learning for school.
I like to communicate with the parent/guardian after each lesson to encourage accountability during at-home practice. I am open to discussing how to best teach to your child's abilities.
Lesson cancellation will result in a refund or reschedule as long as I know about it more than 24 hours in advance.
